Hrasnica is situated close to Sarajevo. During the war Hrasnica was badly shelled and housed many refugees from other parts of Bosnia, particularly from Eastern Bosnia near the Serbian border.

Community Centre (Otvoreni Centar), Hrasnica

This youth centre is the only place in the town for young people and children to spend their free time. They aim to provide educational and recreational activities for children in the community such as Art, English and IT classes, as well as health advice for the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. Although the centre is well-equipped with materials and activity packs for the children, this comes almost entirely from contributions from previous OXAB volunteers. The centre leader is very friendly and speaks perfect English, and the centre would welcome up to two groups of volunteers in both Easter and Summer.
