Sanski Most

Sanski Most is a pleasant small town with a bridge over the river Sana, hence its name. It is four and a half hours bus ride from Sarajevo. The youth centre is small and fairly well-equipped, and caters to local children, many of whom were traumatised or made refugees by the war. It is open from 8am to 8pm. There are 500 - 600 children registered there, between the ages of 7 and 20; and there are 8 members of staff. The centre includes a computer room in which volunteers could give IT classes, a music room and an art room with some equipment (although volunteers are advised to bring some of their own). The centre would also be happy for volunteers to give English lessons, and there is a wall on which volunteers could organise painting a mural if they wish to give Art lessons. They would particularly appreciate volunteers in the Summer months, especially July.

Facilities:
  • classroom: for English, and there is a huge chess board
  • video room: satellite TV and big stereo
  • computer room: 7 computers
  • music room: 4 acoustic guitars, 2 electric guitars, and a synthesiser
  • music practice room: with a drum kit and a sound system
  • art room: some equipment, but volunteers would have to bring their own, and children have made clay models and metalwork items

There are also 2 entirely empty rooms which MCAB could use, with a small balcony.

Opportunities for MCAB volunteers:

We were advised that an extra English teacher would be appreciated. There are long grey walls down the river banks which could be painted with a mural, but volunteers should bring the paints. July would be the best month for volunteers to come, and then August.
