Summary
The English Club was founded in October 2006 with the aim of offering the children at the Khristo Smirnenski Home in Balvan a fun and imaginative way of learning English, providing both a constructive and stimulating extra-curricular activity and, in the long-term, broadening the children’s prospects. The Club provides a range of interactive English-based activities including alphabet puzzles and games, craft activities, singing English songs such as “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and nursery rhymes, making weather charts and calendars and playing games such as snap and opposite matching games to help the younger children to learn English but also to give them the opportunity to play and have fun. The older children are also taught using age-appropriate interactive activities such as listening to the lyrics of popular English music and learning about their favourite football and film stars through the medium of English. At the end of term we also aim to put on a Christmas party for the children to say well done and allow them to perform any songs etc. that they’ve learnt during the Club sessions.

Update
The Club is currently being taught by Steliyana Dulkova, a graduate of English and pedagogy, and a truly enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who is loved by all of the children. The children are taught every Friday afternoon in four different groups according to age and ability.
